The arithmetic

Two forest hours at the door price is three hundred and seventy dollars. Membership is two hundred and ninety-five, so you are saving seventy-five dollars a month, or a little over twenty per cent, and about nine hundred dollars a year.

That is the whole offer and it is deliberately not a large discount. A membership that saves you forty per cent is a membership priced on the assumption that a third of members will not use it, and that is a business model we would rather not run.

The part that is worth more than the money

Priority booking. Members see the calendar a week before it opens to everyone else, which on a Saturday is the difference between having a choice of therapists and taking what is left.

Given that the honest answer to “how far ahead should I book” is two to three weeks for a weekend, this is the reason most people join, and several of them have said so.

Who it is not for

Anyone who comes four times a year. Two hundred and ninety-five a month is thirty-five hundred a year and no amount of banking unused hours makes that arithmetic work.

Hours do roll over for three months, which is there to cover a bad January rather than to make an annual visitor feel sensible about a monthly charge. If you have banked more than four you are not using it, and we will say so and pause you.

The shelf makes almost no money and exists so members can take the oil home.

Is a spa membership worth it?

Only if you were already coming twice a month. At $295 for two hours worth $370 you save about twenty per cent, and if you come four times a year the arithmetic is plainly against you.

Can I share a Stillwater membership?

One named member, but either hour each month can be given to somebody else. Plenty of people use the second one on a partner or a parent.

Do unused membership hours roll over?

For three months. Past four banked hours we pause the membership rather than keep charging, because banking that many means you are not using it.

Can I cancel a membership?

Thirty days notice, any time, no fee and no conversation about why. Banked hours stay valid for their three months after you cancel.
