Verse  /  Services  /  Color

Color, and the conversation that comes before it.

Four colorists, one bowl, and a rule we do not bend: nobody gets booked for a job we have not looked at.

How color gets booked

Two doors. One of them has photos on it.

A color appointment is a block of time reserved on a colorist's day. When that block is two hours and the hair needs six, everything after it collapses: the guest at four waits, the guest at six gets moved, and the person in the chair gets rushed through the part that matters most.

So we split color in half. Maintenance you can book outright. Anything that changes your hair meaningfully starts with fifteen minutes and a few photographs.

Book it directly

You are repeating a service you have had here before: a root touch-up, your usual foils, a gloss between appointments. Nothing about the plan has changed.

You want to go lighter. You are unhappy with color from somewhere else. There is box dye, henna, or a line you can see. You have been growing something out and are done waiting.

Dimensional color

Lightening, and where it lands.

Every service below includes the consultation at the chair, a bond builder if we are lifting, and a blow-dry to finish. Toner is separate because not every head needs one.

Balayage

Lightener painted freehand on the surface of the hair, so brightness sits where the sun would put it and grows out soft instead of striped. Best when you are within two levels of where you want to be.

3–4 hr · toner $45 · grows out over 12–16 weeks

from$235Add a cut, $65

Foilyage

Painted like balayage, then wrapped in foil so the lightener stays warm and keeps working. It is what we reach for on a darker base that needs real brightness without a hard line at the root.

4 hr · toner recommended · 12–16 weeks

from$265Deeper bases, level 4 and under

Full highlight

Foils from the front hairline through the nape, root to end. The most even and most controlled brightness we do, and the right answer when you want a whole head lifted rather than a lit-from-outside effect.

3 hr · root regrowth visible at 8–10 weeks

from$185Root smudge, $45

Partial highlight

Foils through the top of the head and the sides: the part anyone actually sees. Roughly two thirds the foils and two thirds the time of a full, which is why it is two thirds the price.

2 hr · 8–10 weeks · alternate with a full to save money

from$145Most requested service

Face-frame

Six to ten foils around the face and nothing else. A brightness refresh between bigger appointments, or a low-commitment way to find out whether you actually like being lighter before you commit a whole head to it.

75 min · as often as you like

$85Also called a money piece

Root smudge

Ten minutes at the bowl blurring the line where your natural root meets your foils. It buys three or four extra weeks between appointments and it is the cheapest thing on this page. Add-on only.

Single-tone & refresh

Depth, coverage, and shine.

Single process

One color, root only or root through the ends. Gray coverage, going a shade darker, or evening out a base that has drifted warm. The workhorse of the color menu and the fastest appointment on it.

90 min · 4–6 weeks for full coverage

from$110Root only, 60 min

Double process

All-over lightening followed by a toner: platinum, true cool blonde, anything that leaves the natural level behind entirely. Booked only after a consultation, because it asks a lot of the hair and we want to know it can give it.

3 hr · root retouch every 4–5 weeks · bond builder included

from$210Consultation required

Toner & gloss

Deposit only, no lift. It kills brass, corrects tone, and puts shine back on hair that has gone dull between appointments. There is no damage in a gloss, which is why we suggest one halfway through every color cycle.

45 min · every 6–8 weeks

Color correction

A correction is a plan, not an appointment.

Banding. Box dye over box dye. A blonde that turned orange in the ends and stayed dark at the root. An ombré grown out four inches past where it was ever meant to sit. Every one of those is a different problem, and none of them can be priced from a phone call.

The hard truth about lightener is that it does not come out. Removing unwanted color means lifting it, and every lift spends a little of what the hair has. How much it has left is something we can only learn by touching it: testing elasticity while it is wet, seeing how the ends drink water, watching a small piece behind the ear actually lift on a timer.

That is what the consultation is for. Fifteen minutes, no charge, no pressure to book at the end of it.

What happens in fifteen minutes.

Photos, before you come

Sent with your request: front, back, and the ends, in daylight, with no filter. One more photo of what you are hoping for. Nine times out of ten the photos tell us more than the description does.

Dry hair, no product

We look at the line of demarcation, at banding through the mid-lengths, at how porous the ends are. Come with your hair down and worn the way you normally wear it.

A strand test

A small section behind the ear, lifted and timed, so we know how your hair behaves under lightener before we commit the whole head to it. Ten minutes that decide the entire plan.

A written plan and a number

How many sessions, how many hours in each, what the total will be, and what your hair will look like in between them. That last one is the part people forget to ask. Corrective work runs $150 an hour with a four-hour minimum.

You go home and think about it

No deposit taken in the room. If you want the plan, a deposit holds the first session; if you want to sit with it, sit with it. And if the honest answer is a haircut rather than a correction, we will say that too.

Anyone who quotes a correction over the phone is quoting a photograph, not your hair.

Upkeep

How long each one holds.

Color is a subscription whether or not anyone calls it one. Knowing the cadence before you choose the service is how you avoid falling in love with something you cannot maintain.

Alternating a partial with a full, or dropping a gloss in halfway, keeps most people in the chair less often and looking better between visits.

Asked at the chair

Four questions, answered straight.

Can a color correction be done in one appointment?

Sometimes, and often not. Lifting old color out safely depends on how much is in the hair and how much the hair can take in a sitting. Most corrections here run two or three sessions, six to eight weeks apart. Anyone who promises one appointment before seeing your hair is guessing.

I used box dye at home. Is that a dealbreaker?

No, but tell us. Some drugstore color contains metallic salts that react with professional lightener, so we strand test before committing the whole head. Being honest about what went on your hair and when is the single most useful thing you can do for the outcome.

Should I wash my hair before a color appointment?

Wash it a day or two before, come dry, and skip the dry shampoo and heavy product. A little natural oil at the scalp is helpful, not a problem. Please do not arrive with hair straight out of the shower for a root application.

How do I know which color service to book?

If you are keeping the color you have, book what you had last time. If you want to be lighter, want to fix something, or catch yourself using the word finally, request a consultation instead and send photos. Fifteen minutes now saves a wrecked afternoon later.
