Verse is a two-chair color studio on Woodland Street, a block off Five Points. Two stylists, one room, and a schedule built around how long hair actually takes.

How it started

It began as one chair
on Broadway.

Verse opened in 2018 as a single station inside a thirty-chair salon downtown. Good salon. Good people. But the book was built to fill the room, and the room kept selling ninety-minute appointments for color that needed four hours.

Jade Sutton left in 2021 with a client list and a fairly specific complaint about that. The studio moved east that spring, into a converted storefront on Woodland with two big windows, a shampoo bowl in the back, and room for exactly two chairs.

Nothing about that was a downgrade. It was the entire point.

You will not sit down and hear me say sure, we can do that today. You will hear what it takes, how many visits, and what your hair will actually allow. Then you decide.

How an appointment runs

The schedule is the craft.

Most of what goes wrong in a salon goes wrong before anyone touches your hair. It goes wrong in the booking. A guest picks the service that sounds closest, the software gives it two hours, and the stylist finds out at 10:15 that she has a six-hour job and a 12:30 behind it.

So we book from a photo instead of from a service name.

One guest per chair, start to finish. Nobody is parked under processing so somebody else can have the good half hour.
Color starts with a consultation, not a deposit. Fifteen minutes, free, in person or over photos. It is not a sales pitch. Sometimes it ends with us telling you to grow it out.
Multi-session work is named as multi-session up front. Before you sit down. Not at hour five, with foils in.
Cuts, trims and blowouts book straight through. No consultation, no gate. Pick a time and come.
The coffee is from the roaster two doors down. It is a real cup. This is the least important thing on this list and guests mention it most.

Things we don't do.

A studio this small only works if it is honest about its edges. These are ours.

We don't take color walk-ins. Ever. There is no float in a two-chair book to absorb one.
We don't quote color from a DM. A phone screenshot in bathroom light is not enough information to price four hours of somebody's day.
We don't promise platinum in one sitting over years of box color. Hair has a budget, and it is not measured in money.
We don't double-book to make a number. If the day is full, the day is full, and you go on the waitlist.

A correction is a conversation before it is an appointment. That is the whole reason this studio is built the way it is.
