Six chairs and three rules.

Everything else here is up to the tech whose chair it is. Those three are conditions of renting one, and they are the reason the prices look the way they do.

The three EMA only. Never MMA.
No e-file on the
natural nail.
Nothing reused that
cannot be autoclaved.

Everything else is
the tech’s call.

Why those three

They are the three things a client cannot check and cannot recover from. You can see whether the art is good. You cannot see whether the monomer is EMA or MMA, whether the ring of thinned plate at your cuticle came from a drill, or whether the file that just touched you touched somebody else first.

So those are the ones written into the chair agreement, and the only three things any tech here has ever been asked to leave over.

The room

A print shop until 2015, which is why the ventilation is better than any nail studio has a right to be: two extraction runs already ran the length of the building for the presses, and we put local extraction at every chair onto them. Acrylic dust and monomer vapour are an occupational problem for the person sitting in it nine hours a day, and almost nobody solves it properly because it is expensive and invisible.

The other thing the print shop left is the light. North-facing clerestory the whole length of the back wall, which is the only light in which a colour looks the same at the chair as it does outside.

What has changed

Dip powder came off the menu in 2021. It is acrylic in a different delivery, and the shared-jar version of it is a sanitation problem nobody has ever solved convincingly. We lost bookings over it for about six months.

Per-nail charging for chrome came off in 2022, which cost real money and is the change clients mention most.
