Why six
A two-hour set done properly is two hours of close, fine, still work about eight inches from somebody’s face. Four of those in a day is a full day. Six across two chairs is what this studio does and it is deliberately under what the hours would allow.
The alternative is what a lot of studios run: eight or nine appointments, ninety-minute volume sets, pre-made fans, and a fifteen-minute turnaround. That is a viable business and it is not this one. The trade is a two-week wait, and it is a trade we would make again.
“I would rather you cancelled”
Iris says this to people who ring apologising for needing to move an appointment, and she means it literally. A rushed set is worse than no set: the isolation slips, the retention drops, and the client spends three weeks looking at something neither of us is happy with.
Twenty-four hours notice, no charge, no conversation. Under that we ask for half, which is about the studio being two chairs rather than about principle.
Which chair
Say if you have a preference and we will book it. If you do not, first sets go to Iris and fills go to whoever has the slot, which is how the two-week wait stays at two weeks rather than becoming four.
