Your first set · mapping included

Ten minutes of drawing first.

The map is the appointment. Everything after it is execution, and a set that goes wrong almost always went wrong in the first ten minutes rather than the last ninety.

Wisp / Your first set
01
Before you come

No mascara for twenty-four hours, no oil-based anything on the eye, and come with a clean face. If you wear contacts, bring the case: two hours of closed eyes on a lens is uncomfortable and most people take them out.

24 hr
02
The conversation

Five minutes, sitting up. Not “which set” but “what do you want your eyes to look like”, which is a different question and gets a much more useful answer. Bring a photograph if you have one.

03
The map

Ten minutes, drawn on the under-eye patch: lengths across the lash line, where the peak sits, which curl, what diameter your natural lashes will carry. You can see it and you should look.

10 min
04
The set

Ninety minutes to two and a half hours depending on the set. Eyes closed, lying down, and most people sleep. Say if you are cold, if anything is catching, or if you need to sit up.

90–150 min
05
The reveal

You do not see them until the end. There is no mirror at the table and this is deliberate: half-finished lashes look alarming and nobody has ever been reassured by a mid-appointment look.

The next morning

A text. Say honestly how they feel, including if the answer is heavy or catching. Both are fixable and neither is a complaint.

What the map actually is

A drawing of lengths across your lash line, in millimetres, marked on the patch under your eye. Nine to twelve on a typical set, arranged so the longest lashes sit slightly outside the centre of the eye rather than at the outer corner.

That last point is the single most common error in lashing. Length at the outer corner drags the eye down and reads as tired; length just past centre opens it. Your eye shape moves that peak a little either way and reading it correctly is most of what nine years buys.

Look at it before we start. It is your face and the drawing is right there.

Two hours with your eyes closed

Most people sleep, which is fine and expected. Some people find it long, which is also fine: say so and we take a break at the hour.

Do not talk during the set if you can help it, not for etiquette but for mechanics: the eye moves when the jaw does and a moving eye is where crooked lashes come from. Iris will happily talk between eyes.

The first forty-eight hours

Dry. No water, steam, sauna, sweat or crying on them, which is the whole of it and which matters more than any product you will ever be sold. The adhesive continues curing for about a day and water in that window is the most common cause of a set shedding in week one.

Asked often.

How long does a first lash set take?

Two hours for classic, up to three for mega volume, with ten minutes of mapping at the start. Most people sleep through the rest of it.

What should I do before a lash appointment?

No mascara for twenty-four hours, no oil-based products on the eye, and arrive with a clean face. Bring a contact lens case if you wear lenses; two hours of closed eyes on a lens is uncomfortable.

Do lash extensions hurt?

Not at all, at any point. If anything stings, pinches or pulls, say so immediately: it means an extension has bonded to two natural lashes and it should be fixed there and then rather than lived with.

Can I wear mascara with lash extensions?

No, and you will not want to. Mascara on extensions is very difficult to remove without also removing the extensions, and every attempt costs retention.

What if I do not like my lashes?

Say so, and say it in the studio. Length and curl can be adjusted in a short session at no charge within the first week. Nobody here would rather you left politely and disliked them for three weeks.

Come with clean lashes.

That and a contact case is the whole list. Everything else happens here.
