The room · Thu to Sun

Needle only. Nothing else.

The piercing room runs Thursday through Sunday by appointment, in implant-grade titanium, with a downsize appointment built into the price. Three sentences that rule out most of what goes wrong.

Ironwood / Piercing
01
Lobe

Titanium labret or ring, either side. Six to eight weeks to heal and the only piercing on this list a gun would survive, which is not a reason to use one.

$45
02
Helix & flat

Cartilage. Four to nine months, and the one people underestimate by the widest margin. Sleeping on it is the whole difficulty.

20 min
$55
03
Conch & daith

Thicker cartilage, similar timeline, more forgiving of sleep because of where it sits.

04
Nostril

Two to four months. Titanium post to heal, then anything you like at the downsize.

05
Septum

Six to eight weeks and the fastest healer on the list, because the tissue it passes through is thin and well supplied.

06
Navel

Six to nine months. Waistbands decide the outcome more than technique does.

Why needle, not gun

A piercing gun forces a blunt stud through tissue by pressure. A needle removes a small core of tissue and leaves a channel for the jewellery to sit in. The first causes crush trauma the body has to repair around; the second does not. On cartilage the difference is not cosmetic: gun piercings on ears are a meaningful proportion of the cartilage infections a dermatologist sees.

Guns also cannot be autoclaved. The plastic housing that touches the ear is wiped between clients at best. That alone would settle it.

What the jewellery has to be

Implant-grade titanium, ASTM F136, internally threaded. Three specifics that matter and are worth knowing anywhere, not just here.

Implant grade because surgical steel is a marketing phrase with no fixed definition and most of it contains nickel. Internally threaded because externally threaded jewellery drags a screw thread through the fresh channel on the way in, which is exactly as unpleasant for the tissue as it sounds. And titanium rather than gold-plated anything, because plating wears through inside a healing channel.

The downsize, which is not optional

A fresh piercing is fitted with a longer post to leave room for swelling. If that post stays in after the swelling goes down, the jewellery moves in the channel, the channel heals crooked, and you get the bump that everybody blames on the piercing itself.

So the downsize is booked at the same time as the piercing and it is in the price. Four weeks for a lobe or septum, eight to twelve for cartilage. It takes ten minutes.

Healing, honestly.

Weeks 1–2

Swollen, tender, weeping

Clear or straw-coloured fluid that crusts is normal and is the piercing working. Sterile saline twice a day, nothing else.

No alcohol, no peroxide, no tea tree, no twisting. Every one of those extends healing rather than shortening it.

Saline only
Weeks 3–12

Looks healed, is not

The outside closes long before the channel does. This is when people change jewellery, go swimming, or sleep on it, and it is when most problems start.

Cartilage in particular is a four to nine month job regardless of how it looks at week six.

Leave it alone
If a bump appears

Come in. Free

Most bumps are irritation from pressure, an oversized post, or a snag, and they resolve once the cause does. A few need the jewellery changed.

None of them need the piercing removed on day one, and almost none need a chemical.

No charge

Asked often.

Do you pierce with a gun?

No, and no reputable studio does. A gun forces a blunt stud through by pressure, causing crush trauma, and the housing cannot be autoclaved. Everything here is a single-use sterile needle.

How long does a cartilage piercing take to heal?

Four to nine months, and it will look healed at about six weeks. That gap is where most cartilage problems come from.

What jewellery do you use?

Implant-grade titanium to ASTM F136, internally threaded. Not surgical steel, which is an unregulated phrase, and not plated anything in a fresh channel.

Why do I need a downsize appointment?

A fresh piercing gets a longer post to allow for swelling. Left in, it lets the jewellery shift and the channel heal crooked, which is what produces the bump people blame on the piercing. The downsize is included in the price.

Do you pierce minors?

With a parent or legal guardian present and photo identification for both, lobes only, from age twelve. Nothing else until eighteen.

Thursday to Sunday.

Piercing is by appointment like everything else here, but the lead time is days rather than weeks.
