Alberta, between 22nd and 23rd.

A black storefront with no sign on the glass and the name cut into the transom above the door. The door is locked. That is not a mistake and there is a bell.

The door

It is locked between sessions and there is a bell to the right of the handle. Ring it at your appointment time and somebody will come. If you are more than about ten minutes early, the coffee two doors down is better than our waiting bench and we will still be with a client.

There is no sign on the glass. The name is cut into the transom above the door, which is easy to walk past and is deliberate: this is not a shop that wants to be found by somebody walking by.

Parking, realistically

Street parking on Alberta itself is unmetered and mostly theoretical after about five in the afternoon. The side streets one block north or south are almost always open, and 22nd tends to be the easiest. Give yourself ten minutes on a Friday or Saturday.

If you are coming for a full day session, park on a side street rather than feeding a spot you will need to move. Nobody wants to break at hour four to move a car.

Transit and bikes

The 72 runs along Killingsworth two blocks north and the 8 runs on 15th. Both put you within a ten minute walk. There is a staple rack directly outside and a second one at the corner of 22nd.

Before you come in.

Eat

Properly, beforehand

A long session on an empty stomach ends early and badly. Eat a real meal within two hours of your appointment and bring something sweet for hour four.

We have water and there is a fridge. Bring your own snack for anything over four hours.

Not optional
Do not

Drink the night before

Alcohol thins the blood, which means more bleeding, more ink pushed out during the session, and a piece that heals lighter than it should.

We will not tattoo anyone who has been drinking that day, no matter how far they travelled.

24 hr
Bring

One person, at most

A booth with an audience is a booth where the artist is managing a room. One person is welcome for the whole session.

Headphones, a book, a charger. Long sessions are long.

One

Asked often.

What are Ironwood’s hours?

Wednesday to Sunday, noon to nine. Closed Monday and Tuesday. The piercing room runs Thursday to Sunday, by appointment like everything else.

Is there parking near Ironwood on Alberta?

Street parking on Alberta is free and usually full after five. The side streets a block north or south are reliably open, and 22nd is the easiest. Allow ten minutes on a weekend.

Can I come in and look around?

Ring the bell during opening hours and if nobody is mid-session we will show you the room. If we are working, we will not, which is the same courtesy we extend to whoever is in the chair.

Should I eat before a tattoo appointment?

Yes, a real meal within two hours. Long sessions on an empty stomach end early. Bring something sweet for hour four and do not drink alcohol the night before.

Ring the bell.

Wednesday to Sunday, noon to nine, 4619 NE Alberta. Everything starts with a written brief.
