What a HydraFacial actually does
Three things in sequence, which is the whole design. A mild acid solution loosens the bonds between dead surface cells. A vortex tip then applies gentle suction to lift them and the contents of congested pores out, rather than pressing them in as manual extraction does. Then a serum is infused into skin that has just been cleared and is unusually receptive to it.
The result is real and it is temporary: skin looks brighter and feels smoother for about a week, and pores are genuinely emptier for two to three. Regular treatment at four-week intervals does produce cumulative improvement in texture and congestion.
What it will not do
Anything below the surface. Acne scarring, sun-induced pigment, and etched lines are all dermal problems, and no surface treatment reaches them however good it feels. Those want microneedling, light or laser, and a proper retinoid at home.
If that is what you came in for, we will say so at the consult and put a HydraFacial in the plan as the maintenance rather than the treatment. It works well in that role and badly as a substitute.
The cactus stones
Chilled basalt and prickly-pear pads, worked along the jaw, temples and neck for the last ten minutes. It began as something the practitioner did for herself after long days and became the most-requested part of the menu.
The reason is straightforward: almost everybody in this desert is clenching, and ten minutes of cold on the masseter does something a warm towel does not. Several people who came for the facial ended up having masseter treatment because of it.
