The Practice · Third Avenue, Cherry Creek

The case for doing less.

One provider. One treatment suite. A list of eight protocols that has gotten shorter, not longer, in seven years.

Why the practice is this small

Alder opened in 2019 in a nine-hundred-square-foot suite on Third Avenue, above a stretch of Cherry Creek North that turns over its retail tenants faster than we've changed our treatment menu. The plan was not to grow into a chain. The plan was to build the practice we would want to walk into ourselves: quiet, unhurried, and small enough that whoever treats you already knows what your face did the last time.

Most of aesthetic medicine's failure modes are volume problems. When a room has to turn over every twenty minutes, somebody stops asking the second question. When six injectors share a client list, the person holding the syringe today is reading someone else's notes about your jaw. When a business runs on package sales, the honest answer (you don't need this yet) costs money to say out loud.

So we removed the volume. One provider does every injection. Appointments are booked long. Nothing is sold in bundles. The result is a practice that treats fewer people than it could, and treats them for longer than it needs to.

What "not different" actually means

The line on our front page is not modesty for its own sake. It's a working brief. Aesthetic treatment done well restores something you already had: the way your face looked when you were rested, before a decade of squinting through Colorado sun. It does not install a new face on you. When someone stops you to say your skin looks good, the work has succeeded. When someone stops you to ask what you had done, something has gone slightly wrong, and it is almost always a dosing decision made three appointments ago.

We would rather under-treat and see you again in two weeks than over-treat and wait four months for it to wear off. That preference shapes everything below.

The other list

What we don't do.

A short treatment menu is only meaningful alongside the things deliberately left off it.

  • No permanent or semi-permanent fillers. Everything we inject either metabolizes on its own or can be dissolved. If a result is not what we planned for, we want a way back.
  • No injectable parties or group events. Aesthetic medicine is a clinical appointment. It does not belong in a living room with a glass of wine in your hand.
  • No unit specials, no Black Friday syringes. Discounting a prescription medical treatment encourages people to buy more of it than they need. That is the opposite of the job.
  • No treatment we can't explain in plain English. If a device or a protocol needs a marketing deck to justify it, we don't carry it.
  • No same-day injectables for new clients. The consultation and the treatment are separate visits, always. Here is why.
Context · Denver

A mile up, and very dry.

Practicing here is not the same as practicing at sea level, and the difference shows up in skin before it shows up anywhere else. Denver sits at five thousand two hundred and eighty feet under thin, dry air, with more hours of direct sun than most of the country and a winter that runs the humidity down to almost nothing. Add a population that skis, cycles and runs outdoors year round, and you get a client base whose skin barrier is doing more work than it was built for.

Practically, that means we talk about sun exposure and hydration in nearly every consultation, we schedule resurfacing around the seasons rather than around a promotion calendar, and we are cautious about stacking aggressive treatments in a February that has already stripped your skin. None of that is exciting. It is most of what makes a plan hold up over a year.

Alder draws from Cherry Creek, Wash Park, Congress Park, Lowry and a steady thread of people who drive down from Boulder. We are a small practice in a city with no shortage of larger ones. The reason to choose the small one is on this page.
